Travel & Donation

People traveling outside Lebanon are still able to donate blood when they return.
However, travel to an area where there is a risk of exposure to a certain disease can result in symptomless infection that can be transmitted through blood transfusion.If you’ve been overseas recently select the country that you have visited from the drop-down list below to find out when you are able to donate blood.

 

 

If you couldn’t find a certain country this mean, you are able to donate after your visit as there are no diseases in this country that impact on blood donation.'

Chagas
You should wait 6 Months after your return to Lebanon, if your visit was less than 28 days otherwise you cannot donate blood.
If you were born or had a blood transfusion/ Organ Transplant in this country, we can’t accept whole blood donations.
If you have been diagnosed with Chagas we are sorry, but you cannot donate blood.
Please inform staff during the medical interview as it is important we know this.

Chikungunya
You should wait one month after your return to Lebanon before giving blood.
If you have been diagnosed with Chikungunya Virus or have had similar symptoms then you must wait for 6 months after full recovery before blood donation.

Dengue
You should wait one month after your return to Lebanon before giving blood.
If you have been diagnosed with Dengue then you need to wait 6 months from the date of recovery before donating.

Malaria

You should wait 6 MONTHS after your return to Lebanon before giving blood. If you have ever had Malaria you must not give blood until it has been 3 years since the date of recovery and finishing medication. If you were born in a malaria endemic country or lived the first 5 years of your life you should wait 3 years after visiting any malaria endemic country. West Nile Virus
You should wait one month after your return to Lebanon before giving blood.
If you have been diagnosed with West Nile Virus then you need to wait 6 months from the date of recovery before donating.
